Bob Pegler
Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Global Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) Institute
  • Spent more than 30 years with the Australian Public Service, which included work in resources and energy, industry, finance and environment.
  • For the past 15 years, Pegler has worked on issues as diverse as competitiveness, globalization and market access, resource development, energy markets, and drivers of industry growth. He has considerable experience across policy issues and their integration with the overall economic framework.
  • At both bilateral and multilateral international levels, he has facilitated international trade, industry and energy/resources policy and science and technology collaboration. His international experience has covered the OECD, the International Energy Agency, the WTO/TBT Committee, a wide array of environment forums, including United Nations agencies.
  • From 2002-06, Pegler was minister-counselor in the Australian Permanent Delegation to the OECD and represented Australia’s energy and industry policy views at the International Energy Agency and the various industry-related committees of the OECD.
  • Most recently, as head of the Resources Division and as general manager, Offshore Resources Branch within the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism, he was responsible for policy formulation and regulation surrounding Australia’s mineral resources. His role encompassed petroleum exploration policy, market access and development of petroleum resources including LNG, policy and the administration/regulation of permits/licences/leases, and the promotion of exploration acreage.
LARRY W. NETTLES
Partner, Vinson & Elkins LLP

Larry W. Nettles is a partner at Vinson & Elkins LLP, has been practicing environmental law

full-time since 1981. Nettles was recently recognized as the top environmental lawyer in the U.S. by U.S. Lawyer Rankings. He was also recognized as one of the best environmental lawyers in the nation in the most recent edition of Best Lawyers in America; one of the best environmental law attorneys in Texas on the “Texas Super Lawyers” list published in Texas Monthly, and by Chambers & Partners in its recent guidebook on America’s Leading Lawyers for Business.

Nettles currently serves as co-chair of the Vinson & Elkins Energy and Infrastructure Practice Group, and is a member of the V&E’s Environmental and Climate Change Practice Groups. He is also serving as coordinator of the firm’s rapidly expanding Carbon Capture and Storage Practice Group. He is also the author of “Carbon Dioxide Sequestration: Transportation, Storage, and Other Infrastructure Issues,” published in the Texas Journal of Oil, Gas, and Energy Law in October 2008.

Nettles received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Rice University and a J.D. from the University of Texas.

Bryan Hannegan
Vice President, Environment and Generation, Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI)
  • Leads EPRI’s research into technologies and practices that maintain a safe and reliable power plant fleet, develop cleaner and more efficient power generation options for the future, and reduce the environmental impacts of electric power generation, delivery and use.
  • Prior to joining EPRI, Hannegan served in a dual capacity as the chief of staff for the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ), and as a member of the National Economic Council (NEC) staff, where he led the development of the president's Advanced Energy Initiative and coordinated federal agency implementation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. At CEQ, he also coordinated federal agency policies and activities on a wide range of environmental issues affecting air, water, land, and ecosystems.
  • Previously served as staff scientist for the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, with a focus on energy efficiency, renewables, clean air and climate change.
  • Holds a Ph.D. in earth systems science and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering, both from the University of California at Irvine, as well as a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from the University of Oklahoma.
